In Dutch, we also refer to it as the 'vertelkastje' (storytelling box). The 'vertelkastje' is somewhat similar to our puppet theatre. However, the storyteller does not use puppets, but rather images that they pull out of the box one by one. The storyteller is not inside the box but sits next to it, allowing them to communicate with the audience.
Kamishibai storytelling brings a lot of joy to young and old. But that's not all! The box also has all sorts of educational and, in combination with drama exercises, socio-emotional applications.
For example, you can stimulate language development in small and non-native speaking children or build concentration, even in children who are easily distracted.
This sturdy and high-quality version of our storytelling theatre is untreated. To protect it from dirt, it can be treated with wax, oil, or varnish. Thanks to the milled handle, the storytelling theatre can be easily taken anywhere.
